Levels and Milestones

Novice

Apprentice

Sage

Every student starts out here when they enter 12th grade. The novice may or may not have an idea of what they want to do after high school. Their first step is to schedule an advising session and register to take a standardized test (SAT, ACT, ASVAB, etc.).

Has had at least one 1:1 session with me. Is focusing on the following milestones: creating a FAFSA ID, creating their college list, and scheduling their second 1:1 session.

Scholars have completed all previous steps and are focusing on the following milestones: scheduling a family meeting with me and submitting college applications.

Sages have completed all of the previous steps and are focusing on the following milestones: submit one scholarship application and their FAFSA. At this point, Sage's should have had at least 3 meetings with me, 1:1, family, small group, or otherwise.

Master

Masters have dedicated lots of time to completing the previous steps and are now working towards completing the following milestones: 3+ total college applications (likely, match, and stretch) and/or settling their graduation plans, having their 2nd family meeting, submitting at least 2 total scholarship applications, and finalizing their graduation transition document.

The Apprentice has had at least one 1:1 session with me. Is focusing on the following milestones: researching and making a list of local apprenticeships and/or workforce jobs and scheduling their second session.

Scholars have completed all previous steps and are focusing on the following milestones: scheduling a family meeting, creating a resume/CV and a cover letter, and attending or planning to attend a career or industry event.

Sages have completed all of the previous steps and are focusing on the following milestones: Applied to at least two or more apprenticeship, job, workforce, or post-secondary programs and prepared for interviews. At this point, Sages should have had at least three meetings with me, 1:1, small group, or otherwise.

Masters have dedicated lots of time to completing the previous steps and are now working towards completing the following milestones: securing a job offer, apprenticeship, or workforce program, completing at least two interviews or networking opportunities, having their second family meeting, and finalizing their graduation transition document.

The Apprentice has had at least one 1:1 session with me. Is focusing on the following milestones: researching gap year options (i.e., traveling abroad, jobs/internships, volunteering/community service, etc.) and scheduling their second 1:1 session.

Scholars have completed all previous steps and are focusing on the following milestones: scheduling a family meeting, researching funding options (e.g., scholarships, job opportunities, savings plans, GoFundMe, etc.), and finding applications or forms that will help them finalize their plan.

Sages have completed all of the previous steps and are focusing on the following milestones: starting their financial plan for their gap year, applying to at least one gap year program (if applicable), and making a transition plan for after their gap year (i.e., applying to/deferring college applications, going into the workforce, etc.). At this point, Sages should have had at least three meetings with me, 1:1, small group, or otherwise.

Masters have dedicated lots of time to completing the previous steps and are now working towards completing the following milestones: having their second family meeting, finalizing their graduation transition document, securing their gap year opportunities/plans, finishing their financial/savings plan for the year, booking and confirming their travel arrangements (if applicable), and finalizing their plans for after their gap year.

The Apprentice has had at least one 1:1 session with me. Is focusing on the following milestones: researching different branches of the military (if applicable), looking into colleges that have military/ROTC programs, and scheduling their second 1:1 session.

Scholars have completed all previous steps and are focusing on the following milestones: scheduling a family meeting, registering for the ASVAB, SAT, or ACT, and applying to colleges with military partnerships (if applicable).

Sages have completed all of the previous steps and are focusing on the following milestones: submit their ASVAB score, meet with a recruiter, and choose military job placements. At this point, Sages should have had at least three meetings with me, 1:1, small group, or otherwise.

Masters have dedicated lots of time to completing the previous steps and are now working towards completing the following milestones: finalizing their graduation transition document, signing their military contract, preparing for basic training, and making sure that all paperwork for military (and college transition) is complete, and (if applicable) chosen their college.

Protip

Aim to become a Sage or a Master by March! Students who do so will be eligible to win special prizes that will be given away on decision day in 2025.
