How it all works
The Why

The Game of Life is my personal approach to college and career advising. When you graduate high school, the world opens up at your feet and the possibilities are endless. It is my job to help you navigate the many paths available, so that you can choose the decision that is best for you and your situation.

The What

The way I make this process less intimidating is through games. In the Game of Life each student's goal is to create a execute a post-secondary plan. This plan could be enrolling in college, launching a career, joining the military, or anything in between. This progress is monitored through "levels" that are defined by the quantity of graduation milestones a student has completed. As students climb the levels, they are not only setting themselves up for a bright and successful future, but they're also becoming eligible for prizes, attending events, and gaining valuable insights into life after high school.
Points, Milestones, and Leveling Up

Points: Points are earned through casual interactions with our Instagram and at events on campus. This could be participating in Instagram polls, contests, or simply being active at workshops and events. Points are temporary and allow students the chance to be randomly selected for a prize from my loot box in my office. The loot box contains small items like candy, snacks, pens, erasers, and other goodies. The prizes will be rotated based on the season and student preference. If there's something you would like to see in the loot box, fill out this form.

Milestones: Milestones are the activities required to "level up" in a student's pathway of choice. For example, if a student was college bound, a milestone could be completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). A complete list of milestones broken down by pathway can be found here.

Levels: There are five levels in the game of life: Novice, Apprentice, Scholar, Sage, and Master. All 12th grade students start off as a novice. As they complete graduation milestones, they will naturally progress through the levels. There is no grade or fee associated with the levels, it is simply a means of measuring a student's progress toward college and career readiness.
